TempleIdols is the result of decades of dedication to the sacred art of traditional stone sculpture. Based in the historic town of Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu, the initiative is led by Mr. Dhanasekaran (Sthapathi) and his son Mr. Karthikeyan, who together have carried forward their family’s legacy through Statuestreet Sculptures (Sri Aktchiya Handicrafts) for over 30 years. Specializing in handcrafted temple idols, the studio is located in the heart of Mamallapuram—a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its ancient sculptural traditions.
Mr. Dhanasekaran, a government-certified sthapathi with more than 30 years of experience, is widely respected for his intricate and spiritually resonant stone carvings. Trained under the Central Government’s Skill Development Program, he brings deep knowledge of Agama Shastra and traditional iconography to his work. His son, Mr. Karthikeyan, has over 10 years of hands-on experience in sculpting a wide variety of divine forms. Together with a team of ten skilled artisans, they create authentic temple idols that are shipped across India and exported worldwide—including to the USA, UK, France, Malaysia, Netherlands, Italy, Sri Lanka, and more.
